Another talented Tovar has arrived. This time it's young Daniel Tovar, the 15-year-old son of Paul and DeeGee Tovar from Cypress, California, and nephew of the famous Tovar family of lowriders. Daniel has been building models for about three years, and has waited a long time to be recognized by the lowrider community. Taking some advice and help from his friend Roger "Tribal Dog" Chavez, Daniel quickly learned how to cut and hinge doors, trunks and hoods with the capability to work on their own.
One of Daniel's favorite models is the replica of his uncle Mike Tovar's "Barrio Style" '39 Chevy Master Deluxe convertible (the May 2001 Lowrider Magazine cover car). Daniel followed his uncle's footsteps, including removing the top like the real thing, and then prepping it for paint. Once doing so, Daniel laid hunter green throughout the car, letting the model cure for a day and then spraying a nice coat of clear to seal the car's finish.
With the paint done, Daniel jumped into the interior of the bomb, using all of his skills and knowledge. Daniel sprayed tan paint all over the cab, giving it a sweet leathery finish, and adding a convertible boot just like his uncle's real life '39. All Daniel had to do now was to add some wheels and a Continental kit and the replica bomb was ready to hit the show circuit just like the real thing.
Another bomb that Daniel is proud of is the replica of his dad's clean '48 Chevy Fleetline. Daniel built the replica faster than his dad built the real thing. By the time that Daniel was done, it looked like his father was modeling his car after his son's model. The first step that Daniel took was to prep the body for paint, and then laid out Boyd's dark green pearl throughout the bomb. Knowing that he had all of the time that he needed, Daniel took his time assembling the '48. At one point, he actually stopped the whole project and jumped on another, a '39 Chevy coupe with open doors and shot with leftover hunter green paint from the '39 convertible. Once again, Daniel used tan for his interior and slapped on a pair of stock hubcaps to finish it off in a matter of days.
The well-rested Daniel jumped back on his '48, now working on the body moldings and interior. Once again, he used tan to give it a good OG look. Daniel finished the car by gluing on a cool pair of "Ds," just like the real thing. Daniel then jumped on a new project truck, a '39 Chevy, with which he cut the doors and quickly prepped it for paint. Daniel coated the bare naked body with Testors' pearl blue before he jumped on the interior, once again using a tan, with chrome detailing and some fine paint to make it even more realistic. Daniel placed two replica hydraulic pumps and two batteries in the rear adding more detail to the already realistic-looking truck.
Daniel was basically finished with all of his models, for the time being! Here's some quick specs on some of his other rides. One model that Daniel had to bring to the photo shoot was his very first model ever, a '57 Chevy Bel Air sprayed root beer brown with a white top, visor, Continental kit and off-white interior. Daniel also has a '39 Chevy sedan delivery done up in a two-tone black paint scheme with the Tovar logo on the side. Daniel's last model is a super-detailed '39 sedan delivery with a Boyds candy purple paint job, tan interior and a cool two-pump/two-battery setup.
On a closing note, Daniel has earned all of the praise that he's received for his beautiful bombs. Daniel would like to thank his supporting parents, along with his grandma Elba for putting up with the mess.
