Custom Bikes - Legions Bike Club
Profiling the 2000 lowrider bicycle club of the year champions.

Legions Bike Club founder George Rosales banded a few friends and buddies together in 1995 for a little car show fun and was pretty successful at it for three years before turning the club reigns over to Randy Beard in 1998. And since the club began taking on members, it has gone from one member to 15 members with lots of stories along the way.
In that 51/2-year term, the club slowly began to take a noticeable stronghold by building unique lowrider bikes with aggressive body work designs and custom innovation worth more than a second look. In fact, these young bike experts have gone on to set a high standard for others to creatively emulate. Raising the bar, as they say, can only help them in the future and Randy is big on getting things done right. He'll help anyone who wants to be helped.
A number of facts helped to determine Legions' spot in history as a formidable bike club. The reason chosen by both Lowrider Bicycle Magazine and the Go-Lo Entertainment staff for the 2000 Lowrider Bicycle Club of the Year was due to a number of factors. Randy is the 2000 Trike of the Year champion. Legions entered the most bikes as a club during the 2000 Boulevard Tour (mostly on West Coast dates in San Bernardino and San Diego, California, and Portland, Oregon). Legions has been a well-organized club since 1995 and have steadily progressed. But what points us in the direction of featuring these bikes in LRB is the unmatched craftsmanship and ingenuity displayed by the club's top creations. Each Legions bike is stunning in its own right and forges a new direction with every spoke and modification.
A brief history from past issues of LRB reminds us of the who's who of the Legions crew. LRB profiled Danny Castrellon's "Possessed" '65 Schwinn Sting-Ray in the Spring '97 issue. The president himself, Randy Beard, had been working on a three-wheeler which LRB was anxious to promote because of all of the extras that were added for competition. Randy helped raise the three-wheel class to a new level with his "Knight's Quest" trike as featured in the Fall '98 issue.
The very next year, rumors were swirling around about Randy's next trike being transformed into a second generation three-wheeler called "Knight's Quest II," and what a crazed radical it turned out to be. Randy is the reigning 2000 Lowrider Trike of the Year champion, which keeps the Legions standards very high.
Other members you may remember include Canadian Shaun De Cae's "Darkness Falls" '68 Leader Whysper (Spring 2000), Jose Garibay's "Satan's Sideshow" '76 Schwinn (Summer 2000), Freddy Madrigal's "Livin' Legend" (Winter 2000) and older brother Felipe Madrigal's "Dr. Frankenstein" 16-inch lowrider bike. Still more members have since been inducted into the award-winning group, like Dagoberto Duran's "Mi Cultura" 20-inch full-custom bike, Benjamin Flores' '79 Schwinn entitled "Cruising's Not a Crime," Kenny Cruz' "Freaky Tales" 16-inch Schwinn, Armando Ruiz' "Alma De Indio," and last but not least, Hernan D'Aloia's "Argentinian Pride," which was active until it was bought by the Pink Taco restaurant in Las Vegas, Nevada.
It's an honor for Lowrider Bicycle and Go-Lo to present Legions with the Lowrider Bicycle Club of the Year title, especially since the club has been a big player in continuing the sport that we all love. Congratulations to Legions Bike Club.
